Ailing Mission priest succumbs to cancer

EDITOR’S NOTE: Sadly, Father Paul E. Canuel, a retired priest of the Fall River Diocese, informed us of this late-breaking news. In our print edition, Father Canuel made a plea to provide financial assistance for Father Velasquez, but God called him home. Please keep Father Velasquez and his family in your prayers …

Today in the early morning God called home Father Daniel Velasquez from Guaimaca, Honduras, a young (37) priest from Santa Rosa de Lima parish, our diocesan mission church since 2000. Daniel died of gastrointestinal cancer. He joins, in Heaven, his brother Emmanuel who died of leukemia in 2005, short one week of his 16th birthday. He leaves his widowed mother and five siblings. Please pray for him and his family.

Sincerely,
Father Paul E. Canuel
