PILGRIMAGE TO WASHINGTON — Fifty pilgrims from the Fall River Diocese recently traveled to Washington, D.C. for a Mass of Thanksgiving in celebration of the recent canonization of St. Damien of Molokai on January 31, World Leprosy Day. The Mass was held at the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in the nation’s capital and was celebrated by Archbishop Pietro Sambi, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States. The homilist and pilgrimage leader was Father William Petrie, SSCC, provinicial of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, based in Fairhaven, Mass.
